Video: T-Rell – “Floatin'”

With a uniquely melodic approach to street music, Topeka’s T-Rell cuts his own path through the music industry. Delivering an appropriately outrageous video for one of his catchiest singles, T-Rell lives his best life with two models in the video for Floatin.” Decorating his kitchen with sand and rose petals, T-Rell and his gorgeous friends don bunny ears, fight with food, scarf down sugary cereals, and bathe in gallons of milk in the video. A colorful and fun-loving clip, the video ends with T-Rell’s friend walking in on the messy aftermath. “Floatin'” is one of the lighter moments on Can’t Stop MeT-Rell’s recent project.

Discussing common problems with uncommon emotion, T-Rell’s project is an empathetic glimpse into the trials of street life, with songs about grief, hustling, and everything in-between on the accomplished project. Featuring appearances from Kevin Gates, Moneybagg Yo, Mozzy, Paul Wall, Ray Ray, Mo3, Xta-C, and others, Can’t Stop Me is a triumphant arrival for the talented young Kansas native, who is ready to bring gospel, spirituality, and deep feeling back into the hip-hop mainstream. “Floatin'” follows the unhinged video for Issues,” which features an appearance from Moneybagg Yo and earned over 834,000 views on YouTube.

Born and raised in Topeka, Kansas, a town with a minuscule music industry, T-Rell grew up loving rap and R&B, idolizing artists as disparate as Tyrese, Jamie Foxx, and Lil Boosie. In 2014, T-Rell and his brother 8 Ball were driving home from one of T-Rell’s concerts when they got into a catastrophic car accident, leaving 8 Ball dead and T-Rell injured. This life-altering moment motivated T-Rell to get serious about his music, as music became the ultimate outlet of T-Rell’s emotional expression. Inspired by his brother’s tragic death, T-Rell released “My Dawg,” which became a massive regional hit and trickled into the national consciousness, eventually spawning a remix with Boosie. A quintessential mournful rap song along the lines of “Tha Crossroads” by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, T-Rell performs “My Dawg” at memorial services around the country, includinh in Starkville, MS, where the song became a rallying cry for a community that lost a teenage boy. Since “My Dawg,” T-Rell has worked with artists such as Kevin Gates, Young Dolph, and many more.
